With the announcement of a significant $750 million CHIPS award for Wolfspeed by the Biden-Harris Administration, the manufacturing sector in Upstate New York is still seeing a renaissance today. Leader Schumer, Secretary Raimondo, the Biden-Harris Administration, and the entire New York Congressional Delegation have our sincere gratitude for their support of the CHIPS and Science Act, a law that is assisting businesses in generating high-paying jobs and enhancing economic opportunities throughout the state.
“It was with great pride that I opened Wolfspeed’s groundbreaking 200 mm silicon carbide fabrication facility at Marcy Nanocenter two years ago. This facility is already generating good manufacturing jobs, drawing in top talent, and opening up opportunities for Upstate New York.” Wolfspeed’s years of research and development in the Empire
State allowed it to grow into Oneida County. Wolfspeed and NY CREATES had been working in Albany’s Nanotech Complex to optimise the 200mm silicon carbide manufacturing process even before shovels were ever lifted at Marcy Nanocenter. These days, Marcy’s technology powers industrial goods, electric cars, and the 5G revolution—all of which contribute to our country’s leading sustainability goals. With my administration’s investments in shovel readiness through the FAST NY initiative and Wolfspeed serving as an anchor, We’re going to introduce the Mohawk Valley to even more forward-thinking and cutting-edge businesses.
The Green CHIPS Act of New York along with government investments are helping to establish the Empire State as a global leader in advanced manufacturing. To grasp the future and get ready for the next century of economic expansion, we’re laying out a new course for the future.
