Following the unanticipated loss to top defensive lineman Aidan Hutchinson, the Detroit Lions face a glaring need on the defensive line.
Given that a Defensive guy of the Year contender is probably going to miss the rest of the season, Detroit will have a difficult time finding a guy who can contribute as much as Hutchinson does. Many commentators and supporters are therefore demanding that the side make a move for a defender of comparable quality.
Maxx Crosby, an edge rusher with the Las Vegas Raiders, is one athlete with local connections who would match this description. Crosby, who played collegiately at Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti, makes sense from that standpoint and has the potential to have a significant impact.
Given the Raiders’ 2-4 start and Crosby’s cryptic remarks suggesting dissatisfaction with the team’s performance, the Lions may be able to move quickly to acquire the gifted athlete to improve their struggling pass rush.
Given the tremendous demand for players in Crosby’s position, the price would not be low. Crosby’s contract is set to expire in 2026, meaning he will have two more seasons under team control. Raiders owner Mark Davis has also stated that the team has no intention of trading him.
Consequently, the Lions would need to provide an offer that the Raiders would be unable to turn down. To try to get Crosby to Detroit, here is our take it or leave it trade offering.
DE Maxx Crosby, 2025 third-round pick, goes to the Lions.
The Raiders receive quarterback Hendon Hooker, a 2025 first-round pick, a 2026 first-round pick, and a 2025 fourth-round pick.
As said earlier, obtaining Crosby would be quite expensive. Here, the Lions must forfeit backup quarterback Hendon Hooker and their first-round pick for each of the following two seasons.
Hooker made his NFL regular season debut against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 6 of his second NFL season. During the preseason, he also demonstrated his skills by participating in all three games and completing 29 of 44 passes for 300 yards and a touchdown.
Despite Hooker’s great potential, the Lions extended Jared Goff’s deal by four years during the offseason. Therefore, Hooker’s future as an NFL starter is probably going to be somewhere else. The Lions could benefit from the value because he is unproven and has a lot of promise.
Because neither Gardner Minshew nor Aidan O’Connell appear to be the quarterback of the future, the Raiders are uncertain about their quarterback. The Raiders would benefit from investing in Hooker as they search for a long-term quarterback under coach Antonio Pierce.
It would be challenging to lose this much money because general manager Brad Holmes has had a lot of success in the Draft. It would be the price of doing business in the NFL, though, as the Lions are hoping to capitalize on an open Super Bowl window.
This is an example of how people responded online to a proposal that had Hooker trading for Crosby.
