As pressure mounts on Gary O’Neil, Wolverhampton Wanderers have discovered that hiring a rising star in the coaching world will cost them £2 million, according to a recent report.
Wolves and O’Neil would have hoped for a better start to the Premier League season, but they have yet to win any of their first ten league games, and their performance is, predictably, casting doubt on the manager’s future.
Gary O’Neil under pressure at Wolves
The Midlands team only has three points this season, and their most recent victory came on Saturday when they drew 2-2 with Crystal Palace, a game in which they were ahead after falling behind early.
However, even after gaining a point, there has been continued discussion about the increasing strain on O’Neil. According to a recent rumor, O’Neil was given two games in an attempt to keep his job at Wolves. They played Palace in the first of those games, and they will play Southampton this weekend before the international break in November.
Even though O’Neil still has the support of the players, the report claims that a lackluster performance in those games might “change the mood” at Molineux. Graham Potter has been linked to a move to the Premier League team, while David Moyes has also been considering the position should it open up.
Wolves discover the appointment will cost £2 million. Thelin, Jimmy
Wolves will reportedly need to spend £2 million to acquire Jimmy Thelin from Aberdeen. Before joining the Scottish Premiership team in June of this year, the 46-year-old spent his entire managerial career in his native Sweden. Since then, he has not lost a league game.
Thelin has managed J-Sodra IF’s under-17 team, under-19 team, and main team. He like to play in a 4-2-3-1 formation. In addition, he managed Elfsborg, where he earned his transfer to Aberdeen, and Jonkoping under-21s. Thelin managed 223 games throughout his tenure as Elfsborg’s manager, winning 104 of them.
The Swede has managed 17 games for Aberdeen overall, and despite having experienced cup tournament loss to Celtic, he has the Dons tied with the Hoops on points and nine points ahead of Rangers in the Scottish top division.
Wolves are reportedly monitoring Thelin as they consider their options in the event that O’Neil needs to be replaced, according to a story from last month. The Midlands team would have to pay £2 million to hire Thelin as manager since his contract included a release clause when he joined Aberdeen in the summer.
