Davina McCall has announced that she will have brain surgery after receiving a diagnosis of a “very rare” tumor.
The 57-year-old TV host claimed that the benign brain tumor, called a colloid cyst, was discovered after she was given the opportunity to get a health examination as part of her advocacy work for menopause.
She stated in an Instagram video: “I’m sharing this. I’m doing it because I gave a menopausal presentation for a firm a few months ago, and they offered me a health scan in exchange. I assumed I was going to ace it, but it turned out that I had a benign brain tumor called a colloid cyst, which is really uncommon—three in a million.
I then briefly buried my head in the sand before seeing a number of neurosurgeons. I received a lot of feedback and realized I needed to remove it.
McCall added, “It needs to come out because if it grows it would be bad,” describing the tumor as “big” and 14 mm wide.
She claimed to be in “good spirits” and is undergoing a craniotomy, a medical procedure that involves temporarily removing a portion of the skull.
“I will be in the hospital for approximately nine days before returning home, but I will not be using my phone for a while,” McCall stated.
However, I don’t want you to be concerned about me. I already do that enough. I am in a good place, and I am giving my surgeon and his staff complete control because I have complete faith in them. He is skilled at what he does.
The NHS states that non-cancerous brain tumors, which can cause headaches, blackouts, behavioral abnormalities, and loss of consciousness, are more common in adults over 50.
According to McCall, fans will receive updates on her status from her partner, Michael Douglas.
He stated that she would be “off grid for a bit” while she healed in a message sent to her account.
“She is in excellent condition and in excellent hands,” he continued. For anyone who are interested, I will occasionally update her account here. Feel free to send love; I’m sure she’ll read all the comments when she has time. People’s support is quite potent. I hope everyone has a wonderful day. Michael xx.
Former Big Brother presenter McCall, who now hosts the dating show My Mum, Your Dad on ITV, has long supported women’s health problems and shown films about menopause and contraception.
