For the forthcoming season, the WARRINGTON Wolves have confirmed a second dual-registration agreement.
The Wire has revealed that they will work with the Betfred League One team Keighley Cougars after previously announcing a renewal of their partnership with their neighbors, the Widnes Vikings.
This means that their younger players can now get vital game time in both League One and the Championship.
Steve Watkinson, the chief operation officer for Keighley, thinks the two clubs have many ideals in common and that the time they spent monitoring operations at Warrington in 2024 taught them some important insights.
“Jake (Webster, Keighley director of rugby) and I spent some time at Warrington last season and my first thanks must go to Gary Chambers, Sam Burgess and support staff for their time and the access they have kindly given us,” stated him.
As a result of the amazing setup at Warrington, Jake and I both left those sessions with a ton of ideas, some of which we have already begun to modify and use inside our group.
“The two clubs have a lot in common, and this seems like a perfect fit for us.
It’s wonderful that Gary and Sam both consider Keighley Cougars as a place to develop that skill, and it’s truly refreshing to see such youthful talent emerging at Warrington.
“We’ve been putting a lot of effort into improving our environment internally, and I think that reflects this partnership.”
“We’re thrilled to begin a dual reg partnership with Keighley for next season,” said Gary Chambers, rugby director at Wire.
They are an up-and-coming club that is extremely well-managed and ambitious.
Over the past year, we’ve developed a positive relationship with Steve and the coaching staff, and they’ve visited our training facilities and sessions several times.
“Widnes and our younger players have another opportunity to experience the first team in a competitive and challenging league.”
