In his victory speech on Sunday, Mark Carney, the recently elected leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, harshly slammed US President Donald Trump, according to Forbes.
Carney stated that “Canada will never, ever… be a part of America in any way, shape or form” in response to Trump’s proposal that Canada become the 51st state in the union.
The former governor of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, the economist also denounced Trump’s trade policy, accusing the US president of trying to undermine Canada’s economy by imposing unwarranted tariffs.
Carney cautioned that Canada’s way of life will be destroyed if Trump was successful in achieving his goals.
The Americans “want our resources, our water, our land, our country,” according to the prime minister-designate. They would destroy our way of life if they were successful.
Speaking about the American healthcare system, Carney stated, “Healthcare is a big business in America, but it is a right in Canada.”
With over 86 percent of the vote, the newly elected leader declared that he would continue to impose retaliatory tariffs on the United States “until the Americans show us respect.”
He presented Canada’s response as a component of a larger initiative to safeguard the nation’s economy, resources, and sovereignty.
