In the second half of Friday’s men’s March Madness game, the Michigan Wolverines were overwhelmed by the Auburn Tigers.

After a close first 20 minutes, the Tigers pulled away in the second half to capture the 78-65 victory and advance to the Elite Eight in Atlanta. The Tigers saw three players, including SEC Player of the Year Johni Broome, score more than 18 points each. Auburn is the SEC regular-season champion and the top overall seed in the tournament.

The Wolverines struggled against the Tigers’ defense, going extended periods of the second half without scoring.

“I just thought we played great defensively with unbelievable effort and energy,” Auburn coach Bruce Pearl said to CBS Sports following the match.

The Wolverines, who had advanced to the round in each of their previous six NCAA campaigns, were making their 19th Sweet 16 appearance. Danny Wolf led Michigan with 20 points and a 50% field goal percentage.

In the Sweet 16 match on Friday in Atlanta, Auburn defeats Michigan 78-65. The Tigers advanced to their third Elite Eight after finishing the game with a 33–14 scoring surge.

Tahaad Pettiford scored 20 points off the bench, Denver Jones scored 20 points, and Johni Broome of Auburn led the way with 22 points and 16 rebounds. Three separate players scored 18 points or more for the first time in Auburn’s tournament history.
